The Market Harborough Choral Society

In 2007 the Market Harborough and District Choral Society officially celebrated its 40th anniversary.

There are reports, however, that an organisation of the same name was formed in the town towards the end of the 19th century. A meeting was held in the town's National School in August 1893 and a committee was formed with a view to organise concerts from the September onwards.

But there is a large void in the records of what happened to the Society until it was re-formed in 1967. Over the years since then it has grown from strength to strength and now boasts more than 70 regular singing members.

The Society welcomes all people who love to sing and are prepared to develop their talents. Membership of the choir is not subject to audition, but there are opportunities for people to perform solos at the discretion of our very talented musical director Anselm Kersten.

We stage four concerts a year. Our Christmas concert is always a sell out. Members of the choir also perform in smaller groups supporting community groups and initiatives. We perform at fund-raising events to support the choir and full-time music students with their studies. Members of the choir also perform in smaller groups supporting community organisations and initiatives, and are available for private functions including weddings and other ceremonies.
